The Fall

“Tarsem (…) has made a movie that you might want to see for no other reason than because it exists” – Roger Ebert

This scene is a spoiler – it’s one of the last scenes of the film.

I forgot how sad this movie is. It is near unsettling how intense the film is because it stars such a young child.

I am, however, fond of this movie. If nothing else, the cinematography, production design and sets make the movie worth watching. Also, if you come just for the stunts – there are so many falls in The Fall.

The final scenes of this film show what I mean. I love the shot of Alexandria in the orange groves as it beautifully frames her with a butterfly and then pulls back to reveal the whole grove. And then the entertainingly edited scenes of stunts from an earlier time in film.

It may be a little slow, but it has Princess Bride vibes and is worth the price of admission.
